Tour Page 5 - Word Ambiguity Resolution

Words ambiguity is one of the key factors inhibiting accurate translation between languages. To determine which of the possible meanings for a word is correct requires a knowledge of the use of words.

Let's look at two illustrations. Look closely at the number of word senses found for each subject and predicate. In the first example, there are 5 possible meanings for the word women and 40 for the verb "to run".

Here is a version in which the disambiguation solution is active. In this example, you can see that there is only one meaning for each word "water" and "to run", despite there being many senses in the dictionary. If you read the sense descriptions, both seem accurate in this sentence.

The cold Italian water is running.
